In England, retired Royal Marine Harry Brown spends his lonely life between the hospital, where his beloved wife Kath is terminally ill, and playing c...hess with his only friend Leonard Attwell in the Barge pub owned by Sid Rourke. After the death of Kath, Len tells his grieving friend that the local gang is harassing him and he is carrying an old bayonet for self-defense; the widower suggests him to go to the police. When Len is beaten, then stabbed to death in an underground passage, Inspector Alice Frampton and her partner Sergeant Terry Hicock are sent to investigate. They pay Harry a visit but don't have good news; the police have not found any other evidence, other than the bayonet, in order to arrest the hoodlums. Summary:

Harry Brown is a retired Royal Marine living a lonely life in England. He spends most of his time at the hospital, caring for his terminally ill wife, Kath, and playing chess with his only friend, Leonard Attwell, at the Barge pub owned by Sid Rourke.

After Kath's death, Leonard reveals that a local gang has been harassing him, and he resorts to carrying an old bayonet for self-defense. Harry advises Leonard to go to the police, but when Leonard is brutally beaten and stabbed to death in an underground passage, Harry realizes that justice will not be served through the legal system.

Inspector Alice Frampton and Sergeant Terry Hicock are assigned to investigate Leonard's murder but can't find any evidence other than the bayonet to link the gang to the crime. This means that the gang would claim self-defense if the case went to trial.

Realizing that the police are unable to bring the perpetrators to justice, Harry takes matters into his own hands. He becomes a vigilante, targeting the gang members and seeking revenge for Leonard's death.
